LG to supply Apple iPhone 8's facial recognition cameras


NEW DELHI: Numerous rumors have suggested that the upcoming iPhone 8's OLED display units will be supplied by Samsung , while the chip sets are being made by TSMC. Now, a new report from The Investors website has detailed some information about the smartphone's front-facing camera, which is said to include 3D face-recognition support.

It's been mentioned that iPhone 8's front-facing camera modules will be supplied by LG Innotek. It is worth adding that the company already supplies dual rear camera modules for the iPhone 7 Plus.

The report further claims that the 3D facial recognition system will work better than the 2D recognition system, which is there in Samsung's Galaxy S8 .
Besides a 3D front-facing camera, there have been previous reports that talk about the iPhone 8's 3D-sensing technology. Back in February 2017, BGR website reported that Apple is working closely with a company called Lumentum, which develops 3D-sensing technology.

How exactly Apple plans to implement the technology in its upcoming smartphone is still unknown. Last month, an analyst said that the iPhone 8 could be delayed because of this feature.
The iPhone 8 (also rumored to be called iPhone 'Edition') could also feature augmented reality (AR) features. Supporting the rumors regarding the same, a Bloomberg report recently mentioned that Apple has assembled a team including experienced hardware and software developers to push its AR efforts. The team is led by a former Dolby Laboratories executive and includes formers members from Facebook's Oculus and Microsoft's HoloLens divisions.
